How did I come up with the idea?

The Story Behind the Design

The Story:

These sneakers are more than just footwear – they are a tool for communication and connection. Wearing our slip 1 is like saying, “Hey, what’s up? How are you feeling today? to everyone you pass by on the street. Similar to how you give the gift of flowers upon meeting someone, these shoes act as a greeting – to friends, family, and strangers alike. Our slip on sneakers, Slip 1 “What’s Up?” was made to build a new community. The moments we share with our loved ones are meant to be special. The design was inspired by those moments to celebrate each other in the global community.

Our founder & designer Haruko Mori, on her inspiration for Slip 1, “What’s up?”:

“Sneakers are communication tools with strangers for me. In fact, when you walk with your favorite kicks in the street, you’ll get compliments from others and start conversations, right? And if you wear the one you love, it makes you feel uplifted throughout the day. Our first Slip 1, “What’s up?” was made to say hi! to others and responding to how they feel on the heel “Happy or Sad faces.”- Haruko Mori

Color Selection:

When it comes to colors for the Slip 1 “What’s up?, Haruko’s vision was to have them be a bold and exciting combination. Almost as if you were to go into your favorite ice cream store and select your favorite colors – she selected an array of her favorite colors that were sure to pop.

Material Selection:

I am thinking about my customer’s desire’s overall look and style. Different materials have distinct textures and finishes that can significantly impact the appearance of the shoes. The one we choose not only offers good breathability and flexibility but comfortable fabric materials.

Our Package:

The shoe bag is designed for daily use in any situation. Use it as a handbag to carry everyday essentials, or as a daily travel bag to hold your accessories.

It’s made from durable, cotton canvas fabric. The printed artwork is an original drawing by Haruko. The inspiration for the design comes from Winter transitioning to Spring, and celebrates the Springtime harmony with seasonal animals’ motifs.
